Coal Miners Heritage Festival

Here’s my post when we visited last year:

The crew and I decided to check out the Second Annual Coal Miners Heritage Festival, at the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum in Lansford, PA. The feastival promised to be a large celebration of our anthracite coal region heritage, culture, and the environment, which was delivered.  (That’s my pretty sister smiling for the camera:)

There were plenty of vendors and displays and everyone was very happy to talk about and share their part of coal mining history.  My favorite was the wash house (I hate doing laundry NOW!).  I also very much enjoyed  explaining to the the kids how life would have been very different for them if they were kids working in the mines and how lucky they are to only learn about this history and not live it.

Buster the clown, our favorite laid back clown was there making balloon creations for the kids, Franklin from the CCEEC brought animals to show off the the crowds.  Plus food and music (a Johnny Cash cover was being played while we had our lunch).

For lunch we dined on Pierogies and Haluski and had good old fashion strawberry shortcake for dessert.  It was a lovely day rich with local history and music.  The No. 9 Museum did a great job putting this feastival together and I be sure to bring the kids back next year.
